Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST)
Correcting Gum Recession with Dental Surgery
The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST) was invented and patented by John Chao, DDS, MADG. This is a scalpel-free, suture-free gum lift procedure for correcting gum recession.
Gum recession occurs when the gum tissue pulls away from the surface of the teeth, exposing the roots. Receding gum tissue is often a result of periodontal or gum disease. Left untreated, this can eventually lead to tooth or jaw bone loss. Thus, it is imperative to correct this issue before it becomes irreversible.
Gum grafting and the Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST) are two techniques for correcting gum recession. Although both are excellent options, the Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST) offers a scalpel-free, suture-free option with little to no pain, swelling or bleeding.
Through a tiny pin-hole made by a needle, Dr. Beck is able to loosen the gum tissue and lift it over the receded part of the tooth. Since there is no cutting or stitching, patients can expect minimal post-operative symptoms (pain, swelling and bleeding) and patients heal quickly.
